HARIDWAR: The Human Rights Welfare Association organised a convention here today on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.

Haridwar, December 10

The Human Rights Welfare Association organised a convention here today on the occasion of World Human Rights Day.

Chief Development Officer Dr Meharban Singh Bisht, who was the chief guest of the function, said protection of human rights was the duty of every government and it should be ensured that human rights of every citizen were protected.

Bisht said the government had taken measures and it would not be easy to infringe upon one’s rights due to stringent rules and close monitoring by the Human Right Commission and various related organisations.

Ranipur-BHEL legislator Aadesh Chauhan said when people obeyed the law of the land and the authorities implemented it effectively, an ideal society is created.

National general secretary of the Human Rights Welfare Association Anup Prakash Bharadwaj said social activists and NGOs working in the field of human rights were doing a commendable job.

Dr Rajni Kant Shukla said the Human Rights Commission came into being in the United Nations on December 10, 1948, while in India it came into existence on October 10, 1999.

Mahant Mohan Das from Udasin Bada Akhada Kothari said just speaking on human rights won’t be enough, as cases of rising crime and violation of human rights were coming to light. — TNS
