Haridwar, February 5

Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat today laid stress on the use of modern farm tools for better yield.

He was speaking at a programme organised at Jwalapur Mandi here today.

The minister said the government wanted to make available cheap and good quality fruits and vegetables to the consumers of the state.

He said the government was making all efforts to reach out to farmers and consumers to resolve their problems.

He appreciated the efforts of the Mandi Parishad and said it was doing a great job in distributing fruit-bearing saplings to the people of the state.

The Agriculture Minister said although farmland had reduced in the state, agricultural yield had increased, which was a welcome sign.

He said that the agriculture insurance scheme under which the government was providing 50 per cent grant was also helping farmers.

Earlier, nearly 5,000 crates were distributed to farmers through mandi samitis.

Rawat presented a cheque for Rs 8,4000 to Dinesh Kumar under the tractor damage scheme.

Mandi Samiti president Sanjay Chopra and president of the Safai Karamchari Ayog Chaudhry Kiran were present.
