Heavy rain lashed Uttarakhand on Wednesday, killing seven persons in Dehradun district.

Four of a family died when an embankment fell on a house in Shastri Nagar near Seemadwar in Dehradun. The victims were a couple and two children. They were identified as Santosh Sahani, 35, his wife Suleka Devi, 30, and their children Dheeraj and Neeraj, aged 5 and 3 years.

Three bodies were also recovered from flooded rivers. The body of Rajesh of Balbir Road was found from the Rispana in Mothrowala, of Nafees from the Dudhli river in Clement Town and the body of Abdul was recovered from the flooded Sheetala in Chharba village of the Sahaspur block.

Rain also led to waterlogging in various localities of Dehradun. Residents had to rush to safer places as gushing waters entered their houses in Bhagat Singh Colony adjacent to the Rispana. Waterlogging had also been reported in Indira Nagar Colony. The district administration had announced a holiday in all schools in the district.

Moreover, in Kumaon division, a cantilever bridge connecting Pithoragarh with Bageshwar was washed away by the flooded Ramganga. Several landslides were also reported from the region.

Similarly, in Mussoorie, landslides took place in the Kempty Fall area, though no loss to life or property had been reported. All rivers in the state were in spate and were close to danger mark.
