Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said he is ready to withdraw the school project from Nainisar in Almora district if local villagers give him in writing that they do not need it there. He was addressing the local media at Haldwani on the return leg of his Kumaon visit under the Jan Samvad Yatra today.

The Chief Minister said there was no hope of development without investment of capital by private parties in the state. The government would have to give land to private parties that were ready to invest in development projects in the state. If residents of Nainisar village gave in writing against the proposed project, he would not impose it on them, said the Chief Minister.

He added the government succeeded in opening a university in Pauri Garhwal district with the cooperation of the people. “We are planning to open a technical university in Almora with the help of a private party but we have sounded local people that if they oppose the decision, the project will not be opened there,” he added.

Rawat answering a question said the Congress would return to power in the Assembly elections in 2017 as the opposition parties have no agenda. “Better governance, a good and clear agenda and a vision of develo-pment will ensure the return of the Congress to power next year,” said the Chief Minister.
