As a fallout to the alleged rape and abortion of a mute inmate of Nari Niketan, which is now being investigated by a SIT, the Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, has been asked to examine the condition prevailing at all Nari Niketans and Bal Niketans in Uttarakhand.
After the Nari Niketan incident came to light, all government homes being run for children have come under the scanner. Now the Department of Social Welfare has asked Deputy Director Vandana Singh to carry out inspection of all the homes and then submit a report to the government.
Further, Director of Social Welfare Vishnu Singh Dhanik said the government would soon appoint Deputy Director, Women and Child Welfare, and also appoint probation officers for Garhwal and Kumaon. He said recruitment would soon start for appointing three superintendents for Nari Niketan and Bal Niketan.
“In addition to put in place proper security arrangements at the Dehradun Nari Niketan, four CCTV cameras will be installed,” said Dhanik.
Further, the government has also issued orders for the suspension of superintendent of Nari Niketan Meenakshi Pokhriyal and superintendent in charge Anita Maindola. Officials claim that the action was taken after the team constituted by District Magistrate Ravi Nath Raman Led by ADM Jharna Kamthan was pelted stones.
