While the government is making tall claims of providing the best infrastructure to students in government schools, the situation at Nainbagh Government School presents a different picture.

Students are being forced to sit on the floor during classes in the absence of rugs and furniture. Parents say the school had no furniture for the past several years. Their wards sit on the floor even during extreme winter. The school has a strength of 600 students.

“We are studying in the school while sitting on the floor for the past many years. Sometimes, we don’t even get mats to sit on. The situation does not improve even during the winter,” said a student.

School Headmaster Bharat Prasad Gargay said they had sent a proposal to the government for procuring new furniture for the school. “As we are short of furniture, students have to sit on the floor,” he added.

He said Education Department officials had assured them of providing furniture soon. Pradeep Kavi, president of the school parent-teacher association, blamed the lackadaisical attitude of senior officials of the Education Department for the situation.
