Mussoorie, November 9

Land sharks are ruling the roost right under the nose of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA). They are also carrying out illegal construction by cutting trees, damaging electricity poles and encroaching upon land owned by private owners much to the disgust of residents in Mussoorie.

Rajneesh Daniel, a teacher at Woodstock School, who owned private land that was a part of Edgehill Estate under the Mussoorie municipality and had kept it to build a house after his retirement, is under the grip of fear due to land sharks who have begun encroaching on the land owned by him.

Rajesh Daniel in his complaint to the police alleged that he had bought and registered a property (40’x35’) at Edgehill State on the road, near Landour Community Hospital (LCH), Tehri road, Mussoorie, in the month of September this year.

A few days ago while returning from school he saw that some miscreants, possibly land mafias, were encroaching on unidentified land and indulging in mining in the area near Woodstock School. These miscreants have already axed around four trees illegally and damaged government properties like telephone and electricity poles by bringing them down. These miscreants have not stopped there and now they are encroaching on his property illegally and trying to usurp it by unfair means.

Daniel in his complaint alleged that Mahipal was trying to grab part of private property owned by him and had already usurped part of a public property in addition to constructing a sidewall on private land.

Daniel further said Mahipal, when asked to stop the work, was not willing to understand and continued encroaching upon the land with impunity. Daniel demanded strict action against the culprit from the police.

SSI, Mussoorie, SS Kholia said they had received a complaint and would begin investigation soon.

Meanwhile, the area near Woodstock School is gradually turning into a slum cluster and is being encroached upon with impunity resulting in unidentified persons grabbing land.

The MDDA has also turned a blind eye to the rampant illegal construction going on in the town. The authority has failed to stop the construction of shops that was being done illegally by the Municipal Council near Landour Bazaar despite the SDM’s orders to stop it.

When contacted there was no response from Mahipal on the issue.
