Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said residents should come forward to learn Garhwali and Kumaoni folk songs and dances of Uttarakhand. He has also asked parents to teach traditions and customs to their children.
He expressed these views at a ceremony organised to felicitate the winners of the Surtal talent hunt show, a state-level singing and dancing competition ofGarhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari folk songs and dances held at the Bijapur guesthouse here today.
Rawat said Uttarakhand had a rich tradition of folk songs and different styles of dances. He said it was a matter of proud for residents that we were united despite having diverse Garhwali, Kumaoni, and Jaunsari’s culture and traditions.
He felicitated Amit Khare, Kailash Kumar, Sakhshi Dobhal for bagging the first, second and the third prizes in the singing competition. Abhilasha, Ruchi Dhiman and Anil Kumar stood first, second and third in the dance competition.
Kalpana Chauhan, Beena Bhatt, Rajendra Chauhan, Vikas Shah, Pushpa Negi and Chandraveer Gayatri were also present.
