The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) has announced Manoj Kumar as its candidate for the Bhagwanpur (reserved) Assembly bypoll scheduled to be held on April 11. Central coordinator of UKD Trivendra Singh Pawar today announced the name of Manoj Kumar as party candidate for the Bhagwanpur seat.
Pawar said after the merger of two factions, the UKD had got strengthened and the party would contest the election with new enthusiasm.
He said the UKD would show its strength in the bypoll and present itself as the only reliable and viable option for people of the state, who had been mislead by both the Congress and the BJP since its inception in 2000.
“Both the BJP and the Congress have failed to live up to the expectations of the people. Only accruing benefits of power and getting media coverage seems to be the aim of leaders of these two parties. While the UKD is a regional party, who essayed a pivotal role during the separate statehood movement. Now, people are realising that only UKD has the vision and intent to carry forward this hill state to the path of development,” said Trivendra, who merged his UKD-Progressive with faction of Kashi Singh Airi, earlier this month.
UKD candidate Manoj Kumar thanked the party high command for reposing faith in him for representing the party in the bypoll. Citing illegal quarrying, law and order, social welfare schemes for scheduled caste, unemployment and clean politics as his main poll agenda , Manoj said he would also raise the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill during his campaign as a large chunk of Bhagwanpur Assembly segment comprised of farmers.
Senior leaders Uday Ram Semwal, Latafat Hussain, Manmohan Lakheda, Bal Singh Saini, Lalit Mamgain, Aadesh Marwadi, Jagdeep Bhatt, Ram Lal, Chatur Singh, Surendra, KS Rawat, Sumit Arora, Rikki Arora and Sarita Purohit also claimed that the UKD would give a tough fight in the bypoll.
