Merriment, music mark Teachers’ Day, Janmashtami in schools

Laughter, merriment, music and colours marked Teachers’ Day, in remembrance of former President Late Dr S Radhakrishnan, and Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at St Nursery School here today.

Students staged cultural items to show their love and appreciation for their teachers. Some students came dressed as Lord Krishna and Radha and displayed scenes from their lives.

Principal Vinod Chhabra, director Ashish Chhabra and vice-principal Ruchi Chhabra were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, special prayers were held on the eve of Teachers’ Day at Guru Nanak Academy here today. Principal PS Kalra spoke to students about the duty and commitment of teachers towards students and said teachers wanted love from their students and for them to do well in their lives. As students succeed, the teachers feel proud of having been a part of the ladder of their success, he claimed.

He spoke of Dr S Radhakrishnan and quoted him on the role of teachers – “It is you who instill the capacity in students to discriminate between good and bad and the courage to reject what is wrong, irrelevant and weakening”.

Students of senior school viewed the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech and interaction with students.

St Jude’s School celebrated Teachers’ Day with great pomp, show, joy and splendor.

The students portrayed on stage dances, songs and jokes. Principal, staff and students of St Jude’s School, Dehradun, extended wishes on Janmashtmi.

Children of Sun Valley School celebrated Janmashtmi enthusiastically. The life of Lord Krishna from childhood to the ‘Gita updesh’ during Mahabharata was enacted by students. It was appreciated by everyone present on the occasion.

Teachers’ day was also celebrated at SBS Institute. The celebrations started with the lighting of lamp, followed by cake cutting ceremony by director Prof FC Garg and the entire faculty. Students of the institute presented various cultural programmes.

The teaching staff and students of the Indian Academy also celebrated former President Late Dr S Radhakrishnan’s birthday. Since September 5 happens to be a holiday in schools owing to Krishna Janmashtami, the school celebrated the day in advance.

Paul greets people

Governor KK Paul has extended his greetings to people of the state on Teachers’ Day.

The Governor in his message on the eve of Teachers’ Day said, “Dedicated to the birth anniversary of great scholar, philosopher, thinker and teacher Dr S Radhakrishnan, the second President of the country, this is the occasion for expressing our devotion and gratitude towards our teachers and gurus who show us the right direction in life.”

The Governor congratulated teachers who have been honoured with the President’s award for their contribution to the field of teaching. He said in society, there was an age-old tradition of giving the highest honour to teachers who build the character of students.

He said in this era of information technology, all information required was available to students easily and thus, the role of teachers had become even more challenging and significant. “Now, teachers need to cultivate original thinking and human values in students to make them sensitive towards humanity, and help them develop patience, discipline and compassion to become good citizens who can help in nation building,” said the Governor.

Meanwhile, the Governor also greeted the people of the state on Janmashtami. He said they should resolve to fulfil their responsibilities and create an environment of love, harmony and brotherhood to strengthen the country.
