Mussoorie, May 28
The Municipal Council (MC) has decided to set up an animal birth control centre near Library Bazaar in Mussoorie under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme. Mussoorie residents have long been suffering due to ever increasing number of stray dogs in the town and the council decision is bound to given them relief from the menace.
According to Municipal Council officials, a Stray Dog Birth Control Society of Mussoorie (SDBCS) having 12 members and MC president Manmohan Singh Mall as its ex-officio chairperson has been formed to run the centre. It is being registered under the Societies Act in Dehradun.
The animal birth control centre will assist the council in its efforts to check the stray dog menace in the town.
PFA members are glad at the development. They say that once the centre starts functioning, sterilization of stray animals will begin in the town under proper supervision. Local residents have also welcomed the move and hope the number of death cases due to dog bites would reduce considerably. However, for the birth control programme to be successful, a permanent veterinary officer needs to be appointed and adequate arrangements for necessary equipment are to be made to run the birth control centre.
