Mussoorie multi-level parking foundation laid

MUSSOORIE: Chief Minister Harish Rawat laid the foundation stone of a multi-level parking facility here today. He approved the construction of an auditorium in the town subject to the Municipal Council allowing two to three permanent stalls for the promotion and sale of art and craft products besides local agricultural produce. The CM directed senior officials to work towards releasing funds for the construction of the auditorium. He also sanctioned the construction of another parking lot at Masonic Lodge to ease traffic congestion.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat laid the foundation stone of a multi-level parking facility here today.

He approved the construction of an auditorium in the town subject to the Municipal Council allowing two to three permanent stalls for the promotion and sale of art and craft products besides local agricultural produce. The CM directed senior officials to work towards releasing funds for the construction of the auditorium. He also sanctioned the construction of another parking lot at Masonic Lodge to ease traffic congestion.

Later, he inaugurated a function at MPG College by lighting the ceremonial lamp. College representatives put forth their demands for the introduction of employment generating professional courses in the college and recruitment of more faculty.

Students demanded that MPG College, which is being managed by the Municipal Council, be brought under the state government colleges fold. Manuj Agrawal, former president of the college, demanded the introduction of spoken English course in the college as most of the students are facing problems in getting jobs in hotels due to poor command over the language.

MC president Manmohan Singh Mall said MCom, BSc and hotel management courses be started for poor students at nominal fee.

Addressing students, the CM said the government had started “Utkarsh” scheme for students. They would be trained in sustainable livelihood options. He said the government was committed to providing quality education in the state.

He said the government would recruit more teachers in primary and high schools across the state. The CM said officials had been directed to approach educated youths for teaching in such schools.

Harish Rawat said Uttarakhand was lagging behind despite having sufficient ITIs, schools and colleges, which was a cause of concern. Harish Rawat said they had asked farmers to grow millet and leave its marketing to the government.

He informed the gathering that they had signed a pact with Britannia and Nestle, which would be buying millet from farmers.

Vice-president, Landour Cantonment Board, Mahesh Chand, principal, MPG college, Dr Sudhir Gairola and Congress leaders Godavari Thapli, Sandeep Sahni, Satish Dhaundiyal and Megh Singh Kandari were present on the occasion.
