The Dehradun police are geared up to avoid any untoward incident during Holi celebrations in the city. They have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure full proof security to residents, especially women.

Senior police officials have given stern instructions to all police station in charges to take up measures to prevent hooliganism during the Holi celebrations. Police personnel have been directed to keep an eye on miscreants who create nuisance after consuming liquor.

The city police will take strict action against residents who are found guilty of drunken driving, over speeding, negligent driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers, minor drivers, driving and riding pillion without helmet or for any other traffic violations tomorrow. Vehicles of traffic rule offenders will be impounded and heavy penalty will be imposed on them.

SSP Pushpak Jyoti told The Tribune that police officials had been directed to keep an eye on criminals during the festival. “Directions have been issued to check arms and intensify patrolling for the next couple of days,” he said. An intense drive was already on to check smuggling of liquor from neighbouring states ahead of Holi.

Jyoti said police personnel had been deployed in large numbers to maintain peace and harmony, especially in sensitive areas of the city. Fire department personnel had been told to remain alert for the next 48 hours. Circle Officers had been directed to visit police stations under their jurisdictions to ensure law and order in the city, he added.

The SSP said the city police would keep a vigil to check incidents of eve-teasing and passing of lewd remarks on women during Holi. Police personnel, including women constables in plain clothes, had been deployed in crowded places, especially bazaars, to keep an eye on youths who indulge in eve-teasing.

Hotels and lodges were being searched to nab suspected criminals and extra vigil was also being maintained in border areas of the district. He said the police control room was coordinating with police stations to ensure peace and harmony.
