Governor Dr KK Paul said today that the education system should be based on positive methods of teaching and learning and should encourage self-reliance.

The Governor was addressing the second convocation of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) University here. He said the time has come for the youth to grow out of the habit of seeking government jobs alone.

“There are opportunities in the private sector that are waiting to be seized. Ours is a nation on the march and its development can be faster, if the economy is galvanised by its youth power,” said the Governor. It was necessary for universities to establish linkages with the industry.

The Governor said students were the youth brigade of the country. Students should ensure that they live a life based on good values inherent in the Indian culture.

He added adhering to values and one’s roots would help him to do better in life. Swami Vivekananda said: “All power is within you. You can do everything and anything. Believe in that, do not believe you are weak.”

The Governor called upon students to prepare for contributing to the process of nation building. “You are the generation next and our country sees you as the harbinger of change and progress.”

He called upon students to ensure that their personality reflected the quality of education they have received. “The need of the hour is to be a front-runner in the nation-building exercise. In all, your endeavours demonstrate sagacity and compassion, resolution and vision,” he said.

He said educational institutions must change and move with times.

All universities, whether state or private, must promote the programmes of nation building like adoption of villages, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Digital India and Make in India.

The Governor gave away medals to seven brilliant students of MBA, BTech, BBA, LLB (H) and BEd and awarded PhD to five persons. University Chancellor Dr M Ramachandran gave away bronze and silver medals. The Governor congratulated the staff and faculty of the university.

He concluded with Dr Kalam’s words to inspire the passing-out students: “Dreams are not those which you see in your sleep. Dreams are those which do not let you sleep, till you have fulfilled them.”

Members of the university’s board of governors, faculty members, staff and students of the university were present at the convocation ceremony.
