Dehradun, July 22

Unemployed BPEd and MPEd degree holders held a demonstration outside the residence of Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani here today. The police arrested the protesters as they created a ruckus at the Minister’s residence. The protesters were demanding appointment in government schools.

The unemployed youths under the aegis of BPEd and MPEd Trained Unemployed Association gathered outside the Education Minister’s residence at Yamuna Colony. They held a demonstration and shouted slogans against the Congress-led state government. The police arrested them for creating a ruckus and seized black ink from them. They lamented that they had submitted several memorandums to government officials, but to no avail.

Sunder Dhoni, president of the association, said public representatives and government officials had given them false assurances that their demands would be fulfilled soon. The government should immediately issue a notification appointing them in state schools.

Unemployed youth hold rally to Secretariat

Dehradun: Unemployed youths from the reserved category held a rally here on Friday. They urged the state government to fill the backlog of reserved category posts in different departments in the state.

The unemployed youths under the banner of the SC/ST/OBC Backlog Sangarsh Samiti gathered at Parade Ground and marched in a rally to the Secretariat. The rally passed though the Lansdowne Chowk, CMI Chowk, Araghar Chowk, Dharampur Chowk and Haridwar Road.

The protesters were led by former DBS College students’ union president Kamlesh Bhatt.

Meanwhile, the police and the agitated unemployed youths had a heated argument as the latter were not allowed to hold a protest near the Vidhan Sabha. The police had put up barricades at the Rispana bridge on Haridwar Road. The protesters sat on a dharna.

They said memoranda highlighting their demands had been submitted to government officials several times, but to no avail. The government did not take effective steps to generate employment opportunities for youths of Uttarakhand, they said. They expressed concern over migration of skilled population to neighbouring states.

Lekhraj, Suresh Panwar, Dharamveer Singh, Surveer Sharma, Manohar, Devendra Rawat and Khushi Ram took part in the protest.
