In a major step towards bringing in natural gas pipeline directly to kitchens, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday inaugurated the first piped natural gas connection by Indian Oil Adani Gas for Udham Singh Nagar district.

At the launch of road show for city gas distribution bids held at ONGC Ltd, Dehradun, the Chief Minister while inaugurating the first piped natural gas connection for Udham Singh Nagar district also welcomed Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s decision to include Dehradun in the ninth City Gas Distribution bidding round, which, he said, would be a positive step towards ensuring environment friendly source of energy for the capital city of Uttarakhand.

He also emphasized on early gas connectivity for Haridwar through pipeline and extension of this natural gas pipeline from Hardwar to Dehradun. “I am every much hopeful that capital Dehradun will also be benefitted for natural gas pipeline shortly as it was needed badly taking into account the fragile environment of the region”, he pointed out.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board’s chairperson DK Sarraf pointed road show across the country had been a huge success and had witnessed participation from Oil and Gas Industry, Industry Associations, policy makers and general public.

He apprised that Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district had now been covered with direct pipeline gas connection for homes, CNG stations and piped gas line for commercial ventures. He reminded that share of natural gas in country’s energy basket was 6.2 per cent against the global average of 24.1per cent and asserted that the country was aiming to push share of natural gas to 15 per cent as gas was more environment friendly, cheaper than liquid hydrocarbons and enables country to meet latest carbon emission requirements.
