One of the major problems the residents of Kishan Nagar (ward 8) face is dilapidated roads. They say a road was dug up here to lay water pipelines but even after the completion of the work, the road is not reconstructed. Besides, shortage of drinking water is another problem the residents have been facing for long.
They accuse officials of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) of being apathetic towards the issues concerning the area residents.
Residents say the officials concerned of the DMC should release funds immediately for the repair of the broken roads in different colonies of the ward. “Such roads make commuting a Herculean task. Potholes also increase the risk of road mishaps, especially during late evening or night hours as two-wheeler-borne commuters may lose balance on such roads,” they said, adding that the Sirmaur road couldn’t brave even the season’s first rainfall as it developed potholes.
Water shortage has become almost a perennial problem in different colonies, which include Canal Road, Rajendra Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Sayeed Mohalla, Loharwala, Nai Basti and Sirmaur Marg. The problem exacerbates in summers. Residents say they have staged protests several times at the Jal Sansthan office, but to no avail.
Among other demands of the residents is the regular cleaning of drains to deal with the issue of waterlogging effectively.
“Street lights should be installed on roads. More garbage bins should be placed at Nai Basti and other colonies,” they added.
