Following intelligence inputs about the presence of members of the nomadic Bavariya gang that is infamous for its involvement in anti-wildlife activities, the Rajaji Tiger Reserve authorities have put its staff on alert and even conducted raids in settlements in close vicinity of the reserve that can be potential safe hideouts for poachers.
Rajaji Tiger Reserve Director Sanatan Sonkar disclosed that they had received inputs about the presence of Bavariya gang members near the reserve following which the reserve staff had been put on alert. He said patrolling in the reserve had been intensified with more forest guards being deputed on duty.
The police administration also swung into action and conducted checking at the Haridwar railway station and the bus stand. The police have already conducted raids at Chandipul and Gangabhogpur areas for any possible presence of the gang members in these areas.
