Rawat lays stone of NCC academy

MUSSOORIE: Chief Minister Harish Rawat today laid the foundation stone of an NCC academy, to come up at Shrikot Malda near Raudhddhar under Devprayag constituency of Tehri district at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore, during a public function held.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today laid the foundation stone of an NCC academy, to come up at Shrikot Malda near Raudhddhar under Devprayag constituency of Tehri district at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore, during a public function held.

He announced the naming of Government Girls High School after freedom fighter Bacchan Singh Chauhan at Hindola Khal. He announced the upgrade of junior high school at Amni and Chapoli to Junior High School near Hindola Khal on the occasion. He directed the education director to open the political science stream at the graduate college in Naikhari on a priority basis. He also granted financial approval to a private institute and token money for the state-level polytechnique institute in the region.

Addressing a gathering, he laid stress on support from all quarters for the promotion of culture-based tourism in the region for holistic development of the state. Rawat said the government was planning to open a Jagar (local folk dance form) institute at Srinagar in Pauri and Lok Bhasha Sansthan in Gauchar. He said the government would open three new schools in every Assembly constituency and arrange principals for these schools where they were not available in the state in December. He said more than 500 schools would be developed as model schools in the state.

As for the NCC academy to come up here, he said the academy would be developed on the lines of the Indian Military Academy where 600 students would be trained as NCC trainers. The government would provide 2 crore to the academy in the first phase. A hostel facility, along with the academic wing, would be constructed at the academy.

He released a magazine, edited by famous folk singer Narendar Singh Negi, based on local folk traditions. Senior officials from the NCC Maj-Gen C Mani, Cabinet minister Mantri Prasad Naithani and others were present on the occasion.
