Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today inspected the centrally-funded projects in Uttarkashi underway since the natural disaster of 2013.

Rijiju inspected several disaster reconstruction projects at Joshiyara, Tiloth and Gangoir in Uttarkashi. He also inspected the Badethi-Tekhla alternative motor road and the bridge being constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The people whose houses were damaged by the massive flood in 2013 met the Union Minister to apprise him about the problems they confronted due to the “lackadaisical” approach of the local administration. Kiren Rijiju said he understood the problem of the people, and would see what all was required from the Union Government for them. Uttarkashi has immense potential in tourism but being a border district it has its own security concerns, thus making it difficult to identify the areas that can be opened for tourism, he says.

He said the state government had not sent any proposal on the opening of all the areas but if any such proposal comes, the Central Government would look into it. Speaking about Uttarkashi-Gangotri Highway, he said the construction work had been assigned to National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The minister is hopeful that things will improve.

Tehri Garhwal MP Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah, former BJP Gangotri MLA Gopal Singh Rawat, senior BJP leader Surat Ram Nautiyal and others were present.
