Partho Sarothy, eminent Sarod player, accompanied by Ashish Paul on the tabla, mesmerised students of Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary School (GNFC) with his musical performance during a programme held at the school auditorium today.
The sarod maestro through his classical performance was able to mesmerise the audience, proving why he is referred to as one of the top most sarod players in the country.
Parhto speaking to the studens said that he began learning sarod when he was just eight years old from his father Sudhamoy Chowdhury and later from Ustad Dhyanesh Khan. Later he learned under Bharat Ratna Ravi Shankar, which was entirely a different experience. Partho presented a ragas beginning with the Gurjari Todi, a melody that is synonymous with the legendary Tansen.
Partho also explained to the students about the functioning of sarod instrument and answered the questions posed by the students on the occasion.
Earlier the students from GNFC sang a shabad that was appreciated by all.
The dean of the school ND Sawhney presented a shawl to the musicians. The principal of the school Anil Tiwari and others were present on the occasion.
