Security cover of nine MLAs withdrawn

DEHRADUN: The Centre has withdrawn the security cover provided to nine Congress MLAs who had mounted a rebellion against the former CM Harish Rawat in 2016 and later joined the BJP.

The Centre has withdrawn the security cover provided to nine Congress MLAs who had mounted a rebellion against the former CM Harish Rawat in 2016 and later joined the BJP. However, Kunwar Pranav Champion, BJP MLA from Khanpur, will continue to be under the Central security cover. 

When 10 Congress MLAs had rebelled against the Congress government in 2016, they had sought security cover which was readily provided by the Modi government.

Later, these MLAs had joined the BJP. They are  Harak Singh Rawat, Vijay Bahuguna, Subodh Uniyal, Umesh Sharma Kau, Shaila Rani Rawat, Rekha Arya, Pradeep Batra, Amrit Rawat, Shailender Mohan Singhal and Pranav Kumar Champion.  Out these leaders at least three former Congress men are now ministers in the present government. They are Subodh Uniyal, Harak Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya. — TNS
