National spokesman of the Congress Shakeel Ahmed has termed the two years of the Modi government at the Centre dismal.

Addressing a press conference in Dehradun today, Shakeel Ahmed said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujarat model of development had been exposed as two years of the Modi government had been full of failures.

He said Gujarat in the spheres of human resource, health and education was listed in the number 12, 14 and 17th position, respectively, among the states, revealing that Modi’s Gujarat development model was farce and did not stand ground.

He said the land acquisition Bill that was brought by the government was meant to benefit the corporate sector and it was only after the intervention of the Congress that the Modi government had to withdraw it. Referring to the verdict of the Assembly elections in five states, Shakeel Ahmed said it was wrong notion that the BJP was on upward trend. He asserted that in all, the BJP contested on 696 Assembly seats in these five states and won 64 while the Congress contested 373 Assembly seats and won 115 which revealed that the Congress had not performed as badly as being portrayed.

Ahmed also reminded Modi’s Digital India programme could not have taken place had the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi not brought telecom revolution in the country. Similarly, today NDA’s government Jan Dhan Yojana could not have seen the light of the day had the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi not nationalised banks in the country. He said even the UPA government’s Swachhta Abhiyan had been renamed as Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan to take credit.

State Congress president Kishore Upadhyay was also present at the press meeting.
