SSP inspects Kanwar stretch

On the second day of the Shravan Kanwar pilgrimage, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Haridwar, Sweety Aggarwal today inspected the Kanwar stretch adjacent to the Ganga canal.

The SSP monitored the security arrangements, barricades, deployment of Kanwar force personnel, including para-military forces, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel.

On seeing Kanwariyas plying on the National Highway, she gave strict directives to the sector and zonal police officials to ensure the Kanwariyas ply on the Kanwar stretch as much as possible from Har-Ki-Pauri-Shankaracharya square, Jwalapur, Bahadrabad-Lakhnauta and Roorkee.

Taking cognizance of vehicle-bound Kanwariyas resorting to playing loud music on music systems and DJs, the SSP asked Kanwar police personnel and check post security personnel to not allow any such vehicle towards Haridwar.

Music systems on more than 50 vehicles were removed by Kanwar police personnel when the SSP inspected the stretch.

Earlier, she held a meeting with top Kanwar police officials at CCR, reviewing the security and other infrastructure arrangements for the fair. Aggarwal expressed unhappiness over the non-installation of lights on the Kanwar stretch at several points, including Mata Mansa Devi shrine and Bairagi camp connecting bridge, which had been made the main parking lot for the fair.

She also directed officials to ensure availability of a JCB machine at sensitive hill by-pass roads round the clock, in case of any landslide, and medical ambulance on this route.

Zonal officers assured that in a day or two, additional CCTV cameras and public address systems will be installed at sensitive points of the Kanwar stretch.

Super zonal officers Navneet Singh Bhullar, Madan Singh Pharswan, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, Amit Shrivastav, Prakash Dewali and Kanwar mela cell in charge Sunderam Sharma were among others who attended the meeting.
