St. Joseph’s College win golf tourney

DEHRADUN: Governor KK Paul gave away prizes to the winners of the third Governor’s Cup Inter-School Golf Tournament at Raj Bhavan, Nainital, today.

Governor KK Paul gave away prizes to the winners of the third Governor’s Cup Inter-School Golf Tournament at Raj Bhavan, Nainital, today.

He said sports activities kept the body healthy and the mind active. Winning is not the only thing that is important, but participation and competition are important too. He congratulated the winners and the runners-up, and said he was happy to see the growing interest of children in golf. He said students should take interest in studies as well as sports and make the state and the country proud.

Paul said that Raj Bhavan, Nainital was giving free of cost golf coaching to children besides other facilities related to the game.

Golf captain HC Shah said, Sainik School (Ghodakhal), GIC, CRST, St. Amtul, St. Joseph, LPS, Oakwood, St. Mary, All Saints , Balika Vidya mandir and other schools participated. A total of 194 students took part, of which 110 were boys. St.Joseph’s College were the winners and Government Inter College (GIC), Nainital, were the runners–up.

In the under-12 girls’ category, Kalistha Bisht of St. Mary’s stood first and Kritika of Balika Vidya Mandir stood second. In the 12-15 age group, Suchita Joshi of St. Mary’s and Sahila Abdullah of Balika Vidya Mandir stood first and second, respectively. In the 15-17 category, Bhumika Mishra of St.Mary baggest the first spot, followed by Manmeet Kaur of Balika Vidya Mandir.

In the under-12 boys’ category, Saumya Tamta of Long View School stood first, and Avinash Kumar of Sainik School, Ghodakhal, stood second. In the 12-15 age group, Priyanshu Arya stood first and Ashish of St. Amtuls ranked second.

The 15-17 category witnessed Deepak Kumar of GIC clinching the first rank while Gyandeep Singh of Sainik School ranking second. Punting winner was Vishal Negi of CRST and the runner–up was Abhishek Arya of GIC. Among the girls, the punting winner was Amisha Vasta of All Saints School and the runner-up was Suchita Joshi of St. Mary. ADC Yogendra Singh Rawat, St. Joseph’s College Principal Peter Emanuel, teachers and parents were present.—TNS
