After remaining in the news for greater part of last month for making controversial statements against his own government, the BJP MLA Pranav Singh Champion again created a stir last night, about celebratory firing having occurred during a family gathering at his residence.

Dehradun police that rushed to his residence on a tip-off is maintaining that only firecrackers were burst during the gathering. Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti said that the police control had received complaints about a celebratory firing taking place in Dalanwala after which the police team was rushed to the stop. However, the police could not verify the use of fire-arms during the family function. “Though nearby crackers were being burst,” said Kukreti.

A fitness freak and a sports enthusiast, Champion is known for his fondness for guns.

Earlier, in 2013 during his previous avtar as Congress MLA, Champion had allegedly opened fire during a dinner hosted by BJP leader Harak Singh Rawat, who was then in Congress. A shot from his gun had allegedly hit the former Congress leader Vivekanand Khanduri.

Though the then Congress government under former Chief Minister Vijay Bhauguna had tried to hush up the matter, former Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal had chastised Champion for indulging in irresponsible behaviour which could have led to loss of a life. Champion had later surrendered before the police.
