Dehradun, May 31

Several colonies continued to face power outage on the third consecutive day after thunderstorm hit Dehradun on Saturday.

The hot and humid climate coupled with power cuts has made life miserable for residents. Officials of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) said repair work was being done on a war-footing to restore power supply. The worst-affected areas were Sahastradhara Road, IT Park, Jyoti Vihar, Ring road, Karligad, Anarwala, Jaspur, Dakpatti, Old Mussoorie road and adjoining areas. Officials said 14 damaged electricity poles were replaced at Karligad village while 15 new electricity poles were pitched under Anarwala sub-station. The technical staff of UPCL had laid a new 5-km-long transmission line and replaced 10 damaged electricity poles under the Malsi feeder to restore power supply to the affected colonies. Power supply was affected as poles and transmission lines were damaged as trees fell on them due to thunderstorm.

Meanwhile, the potable water supply was also affected due to erratic power supply. Residents had to turn to neighbouring colonies or order water tankers to quench their thirst.

UPCL official spokesperson Madhusudan said mobile vans had been sent to the affected colonies to repair damaged electricity transmission lines and electricity poles. Power supply was restored to most of the affected colonies, except where the testing of lines continued till late in the evening, he said.
