Pithoragarh, March 22
The under construction broad gauge railway line between Tanakpur in Uttarakhand to Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh is expected to be functional soon as the officials concerned conducted a trial run on the newly-constructed track from Pilibhit to Majhola today.
The construction of the Tanakpur-Pilibhit broad gauge line started a year ago after the completion of the Bareilly-Bhojipura project.
KD Kapri, station master of the Tanakpur railway station, says, “After successful trial from Pilibhit to Majhola, the extension of the broad gauge railway line up to Tanakpur, the last station of Northern Railway, is about to be completed soon”.
The meter gauge rail service from Tanakpur to Pilibhit is closed since June 16 last year due to the ongoing construction work to convert the line into broad gauge.
Railway officials say railways have plans to run trains on newly-constructed line from Pilibhit to Majhola from March 31, which will be extended to Bareilly junction. “The decision on work on broad gauge line from Majhola to Tanakpur will be taken by Rajiv Mishra, General Manager of the Northern Eastern Railways, who will visit the site on March 25,” said an official. Officials say the Tanakpur-Pilibhit project will see the light of the day soon.
