Dehradun, November 25

The police have decided to seek stringent action against those residents who deliberately break plastic and concrete dividers on arterial roads in the city. Broken dividers are one of the reasons for frequent traffic jams in the city.

Officials lament that anti-social elements and shopkeepers have for their convenience broken plastic and concrete dividers, ignoring the fact that these may lead to fatal mishaps. Anti-social elements have damaged nearly 35 plastic dividers which were installed recently on Gandhi Road, EC Road, Haridwar Road, Saharanpur Road, Rajpur Road, at Doon Hospital Chowk, Tehsil Chowk, and Prince Chowk.

Since the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) are not replacing broken dividers, it has become difficult for two-wheeler and four-wheeler users to drive on roads, especially at night.

SP, Traffic, Pradeep Rai says residents and shopkeepers have damaged plastic dividers on roads to have an easy passage, inviting danger of accidents. He adds PWD and DMC officials have been requested to register a case with regard to broken dividers so that action could be taken against those involved in damaging public property.

Rai says plastic dividers were installed on roads with a motive to separate and streamline traffic, thereby, making it safer for motorists to drive.
