Two arrested for selling fake insurance policies

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested two fraudsters for allegedly selling fake insurance policies to a man here today.

The Uttarakhand Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested two fraudsters for allegedly selling fake insurance policies to a man here today. The police seized Rs 8.7 lakh they had earned fraudulently from the victim.

P Renuka Devi, SP, STF, said complainant CS Jeena alleged that two fraudsters duped him of Rs 12.67 lakh by selling fake insurance policies and shares to him.

Garhwal IG Sanjay Gunjyal made a police team and instructed cyber crime police to solve the case soon. The police team led by STF Inspector Ashok Kumar Tyagi during investigation found that fraudsters had opened bank account with the help of fake identity cards. The accused had even used mobile phone SIMs which they had procured by submitting fake identity cards.

The investigating teams kept the mobile phone numbers of the fraudsters on surveillance and activated its sources.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused from Uttar Pradesh. They have been identified as Rajshree, a resident of Noida, and Hridyesh, a resident of Bulandsahar in Uttar Pradesh. The police also seized Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3.7 lakh from Rajshree and Hridyesh respectively.

The district court today sent the duo to the jail until further hearing.

6 women held for smuggling liquor

The Rishikesh police have arrested six women on the charge of smuggling country made liquor in Dehradun district on Tuesday and seized 132 pouches from their possession.

Sources said the police conducted a vehicle checking drive at the Shyampur railway crossing, Rishikesh. The accused women tried to flee after they noticed police barricades.

A team of police personnel chased and arrested them.

The police seized 22 pouches of country made liquor from each accused. The women have been identified as Radha, Vidha, Dhanvantri, Sharda, Channu, and Anita. All women are residents of Shyampur, Rishikesh.

The accused were sent to jail by the police after registering a case against them.

Man found hanging from tree near DAV College

A man was found hanging from a tree near DAV Inter College on Tuesday. The identity of the deceased is yet to be identified.

Premnagar SHO Ravi Saini said prima facie, it seemed that the deceased was not a resident of Dehradun. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Man killed in accident

A man riding a scooter was killed when he was hit by a speeding vehicle in Dehradun on Tuesday. The police have arrested the driver of the vehicle. The body has been sent for an autopsy.

According to information, Anoop Sharma (32), a resident of Patel Nagar, riding a scooter was hit by a vehicle being driven rashly near the Baniyawala crossing. Passersby with the help of the police took seriously injured Anoop to the government hospital where medical officers declared him brought dead.

The police have arrested driver Manoj, a resident of Mehunwala. He was booked and sent to jail.
