UKD seeks loan waiver for farmers

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), a regional party of the state, today asserted that it was more important to waive off loans of farmers in Uttarakhand rather than increasing the discretionary funds of the state’s MLAs.

Dehradun, June 27

The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), a regional party of the state, today asserted that it was more important to waive off loans of farmers in Uttarakhand rather than increasing the discretionary funds of the state’s MLAs.

Addressing a press conference in Dehradun today, Uttarakhand Kranti Dal president Diwakar Bhatt said there was no point in increasing discretionary funds of MLAs especially when the state was already facing a financial crisis. He said it was more important that loans of farmers in the state are waived off as the state had already witnessed two farmer suicides.

Bhatt said the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal stood for prohibition and would continue to extend support to the ongoing agitation of womenfolk against liquor in the state. He said the party would continue to stick to its core issue such as making Gairsain a permanent capital of the state.

Diwakar Bhatt on the occasion also announced Lok Sabha constituency-wise in charges for Uttarakhand. Kashi Singh Airy has been made in charge of Almora parliamentary constituency, Dr NS Jaintwal of Nainital, Trivendra Singh Panwar of Tehri, BD Raturi of Haridwar and Shaktishail Kaparwan has been made in charge of Pauri parliamentary constituency. — TNS
