The office of Chief Electoral Officer of the state has revised the overall voter turnout in the February 15 Assembly poll from 68 per cent to 65.64 per cent.

Chief Electoral Officer Radha Raturi had announced after the state elections that the turnout was 68 per cent, but now the new figure has been pegged at 65.64, which is 1.58 per cent less than the 2012 voter turn out (67.22%).

“There may be a slight drop in the turnout as compared to 2012, but there has been a quantum increase of 6,50,954 voters who voted in 2017 as compared to 2012 in the state,” said Raturi.

However, the overall percentage for turnout is expected to slightly go up, once the voting in Karnaprayag is held in March 9 and the votes of personnel on election duty are counted.

The number of voters who exercised their franchise in 2017 is 48,70,879, of which 24,49,844 are women, 24,21,019 male and 16 are third gender voters. The elections were held for 69 Assembly segments, excluding the Karnprayag seat as BSP candidate had died in a road mishap. Whereas in 2012, the overall turnout was 42,19,925.

Significantly, the highest percentage was witnessed in the Laksar Assembly segment at 81.87 per cent, followed by the Haridwar rural seat (81.69%) and Piran Kaliyar (81.43%).

The lowest polling of 45.74 per cent was recorded in the Salt constituency. The Chaubattakhal segment recorded 46.88 per cent, Landsdowne 47.95 per cent and the Ghansali segment recorded the turnout at 48.79 per cent.

Further, out of the total 10,685 polling centres, seven polling stations witnessed nil voting. These polling stations include four in the Purola seat, one each in the Gangolihat segment, Almora and Someshwar (SC).

The Halwayheri polling centre that falls under the Haridwar Assembly segment recorded 99.21 per cent turnout.
