Yamunotri shrine to open on April 18

DEHRADUN: Portals of Yamunotri, one of Char dham shrines of Uttarakhand, will open April 18 at 12.15 pm. The date of opening was announced on Friday on the occasion of Yamuna Jayanti at Kharsali in Uttarkashi district of the state.

Portals of Yamunotri, one of Char dham shrines of Uttarakhand, will open April 18 at 12.15 pm. The date of opening was announced on Friday on the occasion of Yamuna Jayanti at Kharsali in Uttarkashi district of the state.

Priests along with members of Yamunotri Temple Committee took out the date and the timings for the opening of the Yamunotri temple, which is also the origin of Yamuna river. Jagmohan Uniyal, vice-president, Yamunotri Temple Committee, disclosed that the portals of Yamunotri temple will open on April 18 at 12.15 pm, which falls on Akshay Tritiya day and coincides with the Sidh yog and Abhijeet murath.

The sacred palanquin carrying the idol of Goddess Yamuna will leave its winter home Kharsali for Yamnotri shrine on April 18 at 9 in the morning and will reach the shrine at the opening of the portal.

Significantly, the date of opening of portals of other Char Dham shrine Gangotri is also same — April 18. Further, the dates of the opening of Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines have already been announced. 

While Kedarnath shrine will open on April 29, the portals of Badrinath shrine will open on April 30. 

The other holy place of Sikhism in Uttarakhand, Hemkund Shrine also in the Garhwal hills will open on May 25 after winter break.
