13 killed as 12 cars collide on motorway in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: At least 13 persons were killed and over 70 others injured on Thursday when 12 cars and a bus collided into each other on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway, police said.

Islamabad, November 3

At least 13 persons were killed and over 70 others injured on Thursday when 12 cars and a bus collided into each other on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway, police said.

The accident occurred on the busy motorway near Hafizabad when 12 cars crashed into each other and collided with a bus due to heavy fog, they said.

“I can confirm that 13 persons have been killed,” senior police official Sardar Gul said.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

An official of motorway police said that most of those killed were going to annual religious congregation of Tableeghi Jamaat which is being held at Raiwind near Lahore.

Maximum speed limit on motorway is 120 km/hour but some motorists often tend to cross the limit due to smooth and broad road, linking Lahore to Peshawar. — PTI
