9 Indians held at Turkey-Syria border, deported

Close on the heels of a young IT professional being arrested for running a pro-ISIS twitter account, nine persons were sent back to Bengaluru from Istanbul after they made an unsuccessful attempt to cross over to the ISIS-infested Syria from Turkey.
According to the police, the nine had reached Istanbul on tourist visas from Bengaluru. They were detained by Turkish authorities when they were trying to cross over to Syria.  They were finally deported to India. The police is probing whether these individuals have any links with the terror group ISIS.
The nine had reached Istanbul on tourist visas on December 24  and were sent back to India on January 30 by Turkish authorities.
"On their arrival at Bengaluru airport, they were questioned by the Bengaluru police along with Central agencies regarding the circumstances of their visit to Turkey", Bengaluru city police commissioner Reddi said in a statement.
"We are checking their background and motive behind travelling to Syria via Turkey", he said.
The nine have been identified as Muhammed Abdul Ahad (46) and his family consisting of his wife and five children, natives of Chennai, Javeed Baba (24) native of Khammam district, Telangana, and Ibrahim Nowfal (24) of Hassan, Karnataka.
Ahad has a Masters in Computer Science from Kennedy-Western University,  California, USA, and has worked in the US for more than 10 years. Javeed and Nowfal are also reportedly engineers by qualification.

ISIS returns home
Hyderabad: The  Hyderabad police on Saturday said a city girl residing in Qatar planned to join ISIS and went up to Turkey but came back without joining the terror group.
The teenager has returned to her parents in Hyderabad and police have counselled her. Commissioner of Police M Mahendar Reddy, however, clarified that she neither joined the terror outfit nor underwent any training. — IANS
