Atul Kochhar

Dubai: A popular Indian restaurant here has fired its head chef, Indian-origin celebrity chef Atul Kochhar, following his “anti-Islam tweet”. Michelin-star chef Atul Kochhar of the Rang Mahal restaurant at the JW Marriot Marquis hotel received flak after taking a dig at actress Priyanka Chopra for her tweet over a “Quantico” episode that portrayed Hindu nationalists as terrorists.  Kochhar’s anti-Islam tweet created a furore on social media, with twitterati calling for his sacking. In Kochhar’s now deleted tweet, the chef responded to Chopra’s mea culpa, writing: “It’s sad to see that you have not respected the sentiments of Hindus who have been terrorised by Islam over 2,000 years. Shame on you.” IANS

Peshawar: The candidature of Noor Jehan, cousin of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, has been approved by the Election Commission of Khyber Pakthunkhwa province who will be contesting in the July 25 elections as an independent candidate. Jehan, Khan’s paternal cousin, is contesting the elections as an independent candidate from PK-77 constituency as she was earlier denied ticket by the Awami National Party (ANP) to which she remained associated since her birth. She said her forefathers had an association with the ANP since partition in 1947. She was upset over trolling of Shah Rukh in India because she was taking part in elections in Pakistan. PTI
