Spain king’s brother-in-law starts jail term

MADRID: The Spanish king’s brother-in-law began a six-year jail sentence on Monday, drawing a line under a long-running corruption scandal that enraged the public and brought shame on the royal family. Inaki Urdangarin, the husband of King Felipe’s sister Cristina, arrived at a prison north of Madrid early on Monday. The former Olympic handball player was sentenced to five years and 10 months of prison for embezzling millions of euros in a case which caused uproar and even contributed to the abdication of Felipe’s father. Upskirting ban: UK MP faces unusual ‘underwear protest’

London: Anger over a British MP’s decision to block a bill to make “upskirting” a criminal offence in the UK manifested itself in an unusual way in the House of Commons with some of its staff decorating his office with women’s underwear. Conservative MP Christopher Chope faced widespread criticism, including from PM Theresa May for blocking the law last week under which someone secretly taking a photo up a woman’s skirt in the country could have faced up to two years in prison. Meghan Markle’s father cried over missing royal wedding 

London: Meghan Markle’s father has spoken about his deep disappointment at being unable to walk his daughter down the aisle to wed Prince Harry at the St George’s Chapel last month, a role Prince Charles had to perform at the 11th hour. Thomas Markle, who says he is still recovering from his heart surgery, has revealed his daughter, now the Duchess of Sussex, cried when he told her he would not be attending her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.
