London: A 28-year-old prisoner lodged in a high-security British jail has topped his class in a Masters course in criminology at the elite Cambridge University. Gareth, whose last name and details are being withheld by the UK's Ministry of Justice, was one of the 22 inmates at Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) Grendon in Buckinghamshire, south-east England. He studied alongside nearly a dozen criminology students at Cambridge in one of their Master of Philosophy modules. PTI
Beijing opposes EU report on HK booksellers case
Beijing: Beijing told the European Union (EU) on Tuesday to stay out of its internal affairs in response to criticism that China's investigation of five Hong Kong booksellers undermined the territory's autonomy and damaged its rule of law. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular news briefing that the matter is an internal affair and the EU should refrain from interfering in matters concerning the former British colony. New York Times to shut print operations in Paris
Washington: The New York Times (NYT) announced cutbacks on Tuesday to its longtime European hub in Paris, with plans to close its editing and prepress print production operations in the French capital. Those functions will be combined into the Times's New York and Hong Kong operations, resulting in the loss of 70 Paris jobs, either through elimination or relocation, it said. AFP
