Masked men have toppled several statues of the Soviet leader Lenin in eastern Ukraine, authorities said on Saturday, in a fresh show of anti-Russian sentiment as Kiev battles pro-Moscow separatists. Two statues were demolished at universities in Kharkiv, shown in videos posted on YouTube, a week after Kiev's Parliament approved a law banning Soviet symbols in Ukraine. afp

Myanmar water festival
At least 11 persons were killed and 134 injured during Myanmar's annual four-day Thingyan Water Festival which started earlier this week, sources said. The casualties were in connection with 50 accident cases triggered by overload, drug and alcohol consumption and over-speeding, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday. IANS
