LAHORE: A female pilot of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was killed on Tuesday when a trainer fighter jet crashed in Punjab province, becoming the first woman fighter pilot to be killed in air crash in the country.

According to a PAF official statement, a FT-7PG flown by Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi and co-pilot Flying Officer Marium Mukhtar was on a routine operational training mission when it encountered an in-flight emergency during the final stages of the mission. 14 killed as Tunisian presidential guard bus attacked

Tunis: A bomb exploded on a bus transporting Tunisia's presidential guard in central Tunis today killed at least 14 people and wounding 11, the interior ministry said. The explosion, described as an "attack" by presidential spokesman Moez Sinaoui, struck on the capital's Mohamed V Avenue, a ministry official said. While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Tunisia has been plagued by Islamist violence since the 2011 overthrow of longtime dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. afp

Dhaka: A 60-year-old Japanese woman living illegally in Bangladesh is feared to have been murdered and buried in a graveyard here as a Muslim after she went missing last month, the police said on Monday as they arrested five people in this connection. Heroi Miata, whose visa expired in 2006 and had been living illegally in Bangladesh for the past nine years, could not be traced since last month after which her relatives in Japan contacted their embassy here. Yoga class banned over ‘cultural appropriation’

Toronto: A Canadian university has banned a free weekly yoga class after the varsity staff claimed the ancient Indian meditative practice was a form of "cultural appropriation". The decision to cancel the classes was made by the University of Ottawa's Student Federation, the varsity's independent student body. Jennifer Scharf, a yoga practitioner, has offered free weekly sessions at the University of Ottawa since 2008. PTI

GM mosquitoes that can block malaria created

Washington: Scientists have created a strain of mosquitoes capable of rapidly introducing malaria-blocking genes into a mosquito population through its progeny, ultimately eliminating the insects' ability to transmit the disease to humans. Researchers inserted a DNA element into the germ line of Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes that resulted in the gene preventing malaria transmission being passed on to 99.5% of offspring. PTI
