Auto-rickshaw driver killed in road mishap

A youth was killed after an auto-rickshaw overturned on the Kartarpur road near Suranassi this morning.

The youth was himself an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. He was been identified as Karan (23), a resident of Jalandhar.

Sources said Karan had given his auto-rickshaw for repair to a mechanic near Suranassi. After the mechanic asked Karan to bring some engine parts, he called his friend Daljit, who was also an auto-rickshaw driver. While going towards the city on Daljit’s auto-rickshaw to buy the engine parts, the driver lost control over the vehicle, which overturned near the Suranassi level crossing.

Karan sustained serious head injuries, while his friend Daljit sustained only minor injuries in the mishap. Karan was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

After sending the body for postmortem, inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC were initiated by the police.
