Chandigarh, December 9

Health, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij today announced that BJP workers would be trained to conduct “sting operations” to keep an eye on corrupt officials.

Addressing a press conference here today, Vij alleged that “corruption flourished in all spheres of administration “ under the previous Hooda Government and it was the BJP government’s first priority to set things right.

Vij alleged he had come to know that a bribe ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000 was sought to issue birth and death certificates. “I have come across cases where it took 4-5 years for officials to issue a birth or death certificate. I have now issued instructions that both these certificates be issued within a week and objections, if any, should also be made known within this period,” he asserted.

“We will soon make the access to hospitals online under which complete records, including those of patients, would be made online,” he said

Talking about the health sector, the minister said it was in a very ‘bad shape’ as the previous governments spent merely 2 per cent of the state’s total budget on it.

He said 34 hospitals in the state did not even have a single doctor while in other cases many doctors had used their “political connections” to occupy postings at a single place for long periods. Moreover, nearly 100 doctors on deputation to other states were being called back to serve in the state.

About land scams, Vij said: “ There is a process which has to be followed and we will take action on any wrongdoing,” he said.

Talking about the acquisition of land for a variety of purposes, he said: “Our stand is that if the purpose for which the land was acquired was not met, we will inquire into it and give the land back to farmers”.

About the previous government’s announcement to set up a medical college at Bhiwani, Vij said: “There is no such proposal. Vij said the government would announce its new sports policy on January 12 next year.

Kiran decries Vij’s statement on sports varsity, hospital

Kiran Choudhry, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), has taken exception to Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij making irresponsible statements on the proposals to build Chowdhry Bansi Lal Sports University and a medical college in Bhiwan.

In a statement issued today, she said both projects had been sanctioned by the UPA Government on the demand of former MP Shruti Choudhry.

Vij’s statement that he had not received any proposal for setting up a medical college or sports university in Bhiwani was away from ground reality. In fact, work was apace on university the foundation stone of which had been laid by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
