Ludhiana, December 13
Employees working at Suvidha Centres in different districts of Punjab took out a state-level protest rally here today.
While addressing the rally, state president Rajiv Gupta said the Punjab Government had established 160 Suvidha Centres in the state for providing different facilities under one roof. About 1,100 employees have been serving at these Suvidha centres at minimal amount of salaries.
He said, “We have already protested many times, held dharnas and hunger strikes for providing us regular pay scales. But nothing has been done so far. In the times of soaring prices, it is difficult to lead a smooth life.” Gupta further added that instead of fulfilling our long-pending demand of increasing our pay scales the government was preparing to include the 160 Suvidha Centres under the Unified Delivery Centre. Under this all the employees serving here will come under private company. This is a matter of grave concern for all the employees serving at the Suvidha Centres.
He warned that if the government did not fulfill their demands till January 1, the employees would intensify their struggle. “The public will have to tolerate the repercussions of all this and the government will be held responsible for it,” the state president said.
The rally was also addressed by Punjab Subordinate Services Federation, chairman, Sajjan Singh, Gurmel Singh, Ashok Kumar, Jora Singh and Bhanwar Singh.
