Dogri writer Ved Rahi’s ‘Battotar’ discussed

The Dogri Sanstha today organised a ‘pustak parchol’ programme on “Battotar”, the latest collection of Dogri poetry by eminent writer and film director Ved Rahi, at Dogri Bhawan here.

Number of intellectuals and writers from various disciplines participated in the discussion on 116-page book, which contains 47 general poems in Dogri, 17 ghazals and 18 ‘bhakhs’, Dogri folk songs.

Initiating the discussion on Battotar, president of the Dogri Sanstha highlighted the literary qualities of Rahi’s inspiring poetry, especially his thought-provoking expressions and imagination.

Dogri poetess Usha Kiran, Dr Adarsh and Dr Chanchal Dogra presented their respective write-ups elaborating the salient features of the poetry in Battotar.

Composer and poet Brij Mohan said Ved Rahi has dwelt on the unique music item of ‘bhakh’ in his collection, adding that the writer has given new dimension and language to the Dogri bhakh.

Prof Lalit Magotra eulogised the Dogri Sanstha for organising such programmes and said ‘Battotar’ depicts the high intellectual level of Rahi and his command on language.

Padma Shri Dr Jitendra Udhampuri, who presided over the function, said Ved Rahi’s creative expressions were like refreshing air in the Dogri literature.

Renowned poet and general secretary of the Dogri Sanstha Dr Nirmal Vinod conducted the proceedings.
