Technology fair draws crowds

Three-day Rural Technologies Fair 2014 ‘Avishkar Expo’, which began yesterday, attracted more than 1,000 students from the district. Besides, hundreds of other persons thronged ‘Utsav’, venue of the fair, on the outskirts of the town on the second day today.

Mani Vishest, vice-president of the Delhi-based NGO Sansa Foundation, which organised the fair for rural people, particularly youth and schoolchildren, said the fair was a joint effort of different ministries and departments. These included the Ministry of Earth and Sciences, Department of Bio Technology (GOI), Indian Council of Medical Research, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, National Research Development Corporation, National Internet Exchange of India, besides HP Department of Fisheries and Himbunkar.

He said the fair was inaugurated by Director General, CSIR, Dr PS Ahuja.

Mani said the fair was aimed at creating awareness among the youth about the recent developments and research in agriculture, science, technologies and other related subjects.

Students of different schools displayed models on different subjects during the fair. Talented students were given away prizes by Deputy Commissioner C Palrasu today.
