Now, garbage collection vehicles in Panchkula can be tracked through the Global Positioning System (GPS). This will enable the authorities to keep a tab on the number of rounds these vehicles make in the city.

This was approved in the House meeting of the Municipal Corporation here today.

“Besides, the attendance of sweepers will be marked using the biometric system. Also, sweepers with the MC will now have a particular uniform comprising jackets and gloves,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC)-cum-Municipal Commissioner SP Arora.

The House also approved 20 mobile waste vans for the collection of garbage in the city round the clock.

Mayor Upinder Ahluwalia said, “We also approved the installation of dustbins in parks and other market areas as per the requirement.”

The 15-point agenda mentioned the purchase of new dustbins for the parks. Focusing on ‘clean Panchkula’, 140 dustbins and 300 rehris will be purchased.

The House also approved the beautification of the entry points of Panchkula.

On the request of councillor Lily Bawa, the MC decided to remove all mobile towers in residential areas. The commissioner said notices would be served on people first and action would follow later.
