Eat, sleep, bask in the sun

This is that time of the year when residents avoid venturing outdoors and relish mouth-watering delicacies around a bonfire. When it comes to taste, street food rocks. Without a care, we eat anything and everything we want. There is no fear of water-borne diseases. Every winter, my mother makes a range of pickles and I eagerly wait for this season. Whenever I am lazing around, I make it a point to keep gachak and peanuts by my side.My friends keep telling me to avoid such stuff, but it’s hard to resist. One should make the most of the season.

No gifts please

Newspaper offices/news channels receive several invites everyday. Gone are the days when these were sent through the Internet or fax. Nowadays, mobile phone application Watsapp rules the roost. Technology has simplified things. Mediapersons have formed several groups and they discuss reports related to crime, education, civic amenities, administration, health and sports through Whatsapp. A message was recently sent to mediaperson to cover a sports event. And to get the best coverage, the organiser had written: “Kindly, collect your gifts from the main counter”, which was quite shocking. Hundreds of reports are filed in newspapers everyday and a responsible reporter never accepts a “bribe”. He/she understands the importance of an event/spot and these are covered accordingly.

Rule breakers

Someone has rightly said rules are meant to be broken. Two-wheeler riders top the list of violators. Although wearing a helmet is mandatory, they are seen wearing it only at traffic lights. The other day, at one of the busiest roundabouts, I saw a helmet-less rider. It got me into thinking that why he was not wearing the gear. He hurriedly wore the helmet as he saw a policeman. As he crossed the chowk, he took off the helmet and sped away.
