Patiala, December 1
Annoyed with the Punjab government for offering "less" amount for their land being acquired for widening of the Zirakpur-Bathinda highway, farmers from various villages today met Patiala Member of Parliament Dr Dharamvira Gandhi.
They urged him to intervene in the matter and help them get enhanced compensation for their land.
They claimed that while the market value of the land was Rs 2 crore per acre, the government was offering Rs 50 lakh per acre. They alleged it was unjust as the farmers were already reeling under financial crisis.
Dr Gandhi assured them that he would raise voice against the government's decision and assure that they get adequate amount for their land. — TNS
