Srinagar, December 16

Contractual college lecturers held a protest here today demanding release of their long pending salaries.

Under the banner of the College Contractual Lecturers Association, Ganderbal, the protesters gathered in the Press Enclave area and raised slogans in favour of their demands.

A protesting lecturer claimed that as many as 81 staff members of Government Degree College, Ganderbal, had not been paid salaries for the past six months.

“For the past six months, we have not been paid salaries causing immense hardships. Many of us have got families to look after and many suffered losses during the recent floods as well. Whenever we contacted the officials concerned, they said there was a shortage of funds,” he said.

The protesters appealed to the government to release their salaries immediately.

“We urge the government not to forget us during the time of elections. While the government has already failed to regularise the services of most of the contractual lectures, withholding of salaries is like adding insult to injury,” he added.
