CHANDIGARH: CHART trainee Krishan Hooda won his maiden singles title by defeating second seed Gaurav Kurva during the final of the U-12 CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA courts here today.

Chandigarh, December 19

CHART trainee Krishan Hooda won his maiden singles title by defeating second seed Gaurav Kurva during the final of the U-12 CLTA-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the CLTA courts here today.

In the final encounter, experienced Gaurav took an early 4-1 lead but Krishan fought back to make it 4-4. After this, Gaurav kept his cool to win the next two games and set at 6-4. In the second set, Krishan Hooda came back strongly to clinch it 6-1. In the final set, both the players broke each others’ serves till 3-3, but Krishan used good variations and played a good net game to win the next three games and claim the title.

Meanwhile, in a match of the (U-16) boys’ category, Digvijay Pratap Singh defeated Aditya Vashist. Aditya broke Digvijay’s serve in the very first game but Digvijay got full control and won the next six games by using attacking ground strokes and named the set at 6-1.

In the second set, Digvijay once again took an early break and maintained lead till 5-4 but Aditya fought back to break his serve to make it 5-5. Later, Digvijay used good variation and attacking ground strokes to win the next two games at 7-5 and the singles title of the U-16 event.

Similarly, Sarah Dev won both the (U-12) and (U-16) singles titles by conceding only five games.

In the U-12 singles, top seed Sarah Dev defeated third seed Vanshika Chaudhary without losing a game by 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, in the U-16 girls’ final, third seed Sarah Dev upset top seed CLTA trainee Prinkle Singh 6-2, 6-3.

Dr Jasjit Singh, honorary secretary of CLTA, gave away the prizes to the finalists.
